Make a wild weekend of it…

Where am I going again?

The Pyrenees! You’ve always wanted to go to the Pyrenees!

Disclaimer: this isn’t the French region. Rather, we’re talking about the Victorian version called the Pyrenees Shire. Good news - it still has plenty of wine cellar doors. And mountains (hence Wild Mount Beeripmo).

Yep, the Pyrenees Wine Region is about half an hour west of Ballarat, and is the sort of place you can visit on a day trip or happily potter around for a week. There are dozens of cellar doors: indeed, five Pyrenees wineries have been awarded 5 red stars in wine critic James Halliday. But eating and drinking isn’t all there is to do here – it’s a gorgeous part of the country, with great spots to picnic, bushwalk, mountain bike and 4WD in the Mount Cole and Pyrenees State Forests.

AND OF COURSE… TRAIL RUN!

Which brings us to Wild Mount Beeripmo Trail Run.

Which you need to get to.

But how? Easy…

Directions

For those coming from the concrete jungle of Melbourne or anywhere in the state’s east, point the bonnet of the trail van west, taking the M8 (Western Highway), and keep the wheels spinning for 180km (to the event HQ).

Coming from anywhere, plug in 110 The Glut Rd, Beaufort, Victoria to your nav machine and get going (note: this takes you to Cave Hill Creek Camp. Keep going a few hundred metres beyond to get to the event entry).

You’ll pass by Melton and then Ballarat via bypasses, before hitting Beaufort.

Here, turn north (right) on to King Street (which becomes Main Lead Road).

Follow Main Lead Road (which somewhat confusingly magically turns into Raglan-Elmhurst Rd) to Raglan.

Drive on through Raglan, maintaining west on Raglan-Elmhurst Rd until you get to The Glut Rd.

Veer left onto The Glut Rd and follow it.

Drive past Cave Hill Creek Camp on your right, PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE MAIN GATE! There is a wedding on the main property and we do not want to disturb proceedings!

The entrance to the event HQ is a few hundred metres further down on your right . Turn in there, park and make your way to the event HQ, see map below.

IMPORTANT: please DO NOT enter or wander around the main Cave Hill Creek Property (red area). A wedding is being held, and the venue managers have very kindly allowed us our patch down the rear of the property, on the proviso that we and our participants do not enter the main property or disturb the peace of the wedding in process. Thanks in advance for your consideration and respect.

Dust off the runners… you know the rest…

Location of event HQ and parking. PLEASE park sensibly and with consideration of limited space and others who may need to exit before you (i.e. don’t block anyone in please!).
